Reporting Child Abuse... -An oral report must be made immediately (within 48 hours) to nearest Child Protective Service Office, to the 24-hour Child Abuse Hotline (1-800-252-5400), to the local law enforcement officials. -Anyone who files a report is immune from civil or criminal liability - if the report is made in “good faith” and “without malice”.

1) Be a nurturing parent -which means meeting the basic physical needs as well as consistently seeking to meet your children’s emotional needs.2) De-stress when necessary- finding effective ways of coping with the stress.3) When fustrated be patient- try to understand your child

What can be done to prevent child abuse as a parent?

4 types of Child Abuse

Sexual Abuse: forcing of any unwanted sexual activity to another. Physical Signs: torn,stained or bloody clothing, difficulty walking/sitting, and bruises Behavioral Indicators:change in personality,drop in school performance, sleep disturbances, and unwilling to participate in physical activities

Emotional Abuse: can include anything from verbal abuse and constant criticism to, intimidation, , and refusal to ever be pleasedPhysical Signs: speech disorders and lacking in physical developementBehavioral Indicators: habit,conduct,and sleep disorders, behavorial extremes

Neglect: the failure of the guardian to provide food, clothing, shelter, medical care, safety, and well-being of the child.Physical and Behavioral Signs: inapproriate clothing for weather conditions, constant hunger, lack of hygiene,sleepiness, unattened physical problems, and lack of supervision

Physical Abuse: is a physical act involving any intentional and unwanted contact intended to cause physical pain, injury, or other physical suffering.Physical Signs: unexplained bruises, scratches, broken bones,and burns Behavioral Indicators:agressive/withdrawn behavior,layered clothing, afraid of any physical contact,lying, stealing and cheating.
