Cherokee Indians (Cherokees)

- Lived in homes similar to log cabins- Many villages had reinforced walls around their village for extra protection - Women harvested crops such as corn, beans, squash, and sunflower- Gathered berries, nuts, and fruit- Men hunted deer, wild turkeys, small game, and fished in the river - Used bows and arrows, spears, and fishing poles for catching food

- Created beautiful pottery, pipe carving, gourd art, and rivercane baskets - Traded these goods reguarly with other tribes such as the Cricks, Shawnees, and Chickasaws

- Lived in the Southeast (Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky)- Men were in charge of war, hunting, and diplomacy/made political decisions - Women were in charge of family, property, and farming/made social decisions

- Men wore leggins and breechcloth- Women wore wraparound skirts and poncho tops- Moccasins- Did not wear headdresses

Cherokee comes from a Muskogee word meaning "speakers of another language"
