An exothermic change is one in which heat energy is given out.

An endothermic change is one in which heat energy is absorbed.

Examples of Exothermic Reaction

- Changes of state

-Dissolving of some salts in water

-Combustion reactions

-Neutralisation reactions

-Metal displacement reactions

-Changes of state-Dissolving of some salts in water-Decomposition of compounds-Reactions between acids and hydrogencarbonates

Examples of endothermic change

Treating Acid and Alkali Spills on the Body-Use water to remove an acid or alkali spill, never try to neutralise it.-Neutralisation is an exothermic reaction and can produce enough heat to burn your hand.-Adding water to the acid also produces heat, though much less than in neutralisation.
