John Dalton

Based on the kinetic theory of gases, a gas will diffuse in a container to fill up the space it is in and does not have any forces of attraction between the molecules. In other words, the different molecules in a mixture of gases are so far apart that they act independently; they do not react with each other

Whithin 4 years Dalton was made principal of the school. He remained principal until 1793. This time he became a math and philosophy tutor at a college in Manchester.

As a child Dalton longed for a formal eduaction. after attending a Quaker school in Cumberland. when Dalton was only 12 years old he started teaching at his school,

Dalton stated correctly that he had no doubt that all gases could be liquified provided their temperature was sufficiently low and pressure sufficiently high.He then stated that when its volume is held constant in a container, the pressure of a gas varies in direct proportion to its temperature.

Dalton's father earned a modest income as a loom weaver. Dalton's family was very poor. It was clear to him that he would need to help with the family finances at a young age.

British chemist John Dalton was born in Eaglesfield, England on September 6, 1766. He had 2 surviving siblings. Both he and his brother were born with color blindness.

Dalton’s Law, or the Law of Partial Pressures, states that the total pressure exerted by a mixture of gases is equal to the sum of the partial pressures of the gases in the mixture.

For one of Dalton's first research projects he picked up a interest in meterology. His research findings on atmospheric pressure were published in his first book Meteorological findings.

Dalton also researched color-blindness. Since he and his brothers were born with it, he theorized color-blindness must be hereditary. Dalton proved his theory to be true when he used experiments on his own eye tissue.

In 1801, Dalton gave a series of lectures in Manchester whose contents were published in 1802. In these lectures he presented research he had been carrying out into gases and liquids. This research was groundbreaking, offering great new insights into the nature of gases.

Daltons experiments with gases also led him to form two more chemical laws, the Law of Partial Pressures (behaviour of gaseous mixtures and dissolving of gases into liquids) and the Law of Multiple Proportions (ratios and gas composition). It is needless to say that without Dalton's work and consequent theories, Chemistry as we know it today may not exist.
