Cheetahs

Cheetahs are carnivores which means they eat meat. They mostly eat gazelles, wildebeest calves, impalas, but they may also eat rabbits, birds, hares, antelopes, and warthogs.Lions, hyenas, eagles, and vultures eat cheetahs and especially their cubs that are left behind while the mother hunts.

The Cheetah

A cheetah's slender, long-legged body is built for speed. While running and hunting, a cheetah can run up to 58 mph and up to 70 - 75 mph in short running bursts. After chasing, a cheetah will need a half hour to breathe.

Adult cheetahs weight from 46 - 159 lbs and can grow up to 3 feet tall.

Cheetah babies are called cubs. They can have up to nine cubs per litter. As they grow, they become adults, find mates, raise their young, live their lives until they grow old and die, then the cycle starts over with the next generation of cubs.

The cheetah are commonly found only in sub-Saharan Africa (south of the Sahara Desert) and parts of Iran. Their range includes sparse sub-desert, steppe (a treeless plain), medium and long-grass plains. They need an environment with bushes, tall grass and other large plants in order to hide from predators.

The color of the cheetah is yellow and their body is covered in black spots. They are mammals because they are covered in fur.
