Charles Darwin

Darwin was born on February 12, 1809 and died April 19, 1882.

As a kid Darwin collected many things. He stuffed his pockets with crawling insects, stones and parts of plants. He loved expoloring around his house and often took long walks to observe nature.

The Theory of Evolution states that all species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited benefitial genetic mutations that increase the their ability to compete, survive, and reproduce.

A age 22, Darwin embarked on a journey around the world aboard the HMS Beagle. His observations of nature and different species during the five-year voyage led him to his theory of evolution and the origin of the species.

The Origin of hte Species by Charles Darwin (1859) is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology.

Fun fact: Darwin almost missed the ship that would take him to the Galapagos Islands where he found evidence that enlighten him into the theory of evolution.
