[2015] Gabi Cortez: Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin was born on February 12, 1809. He died on April 19, 1882. Charles Darwin was a very "naughty" kid, because he used to steal fruit from the side of his house. He was also a very sophiticated person in general because he strated to think about wat he wanted to do when he grew up because his father sent him to boarding school when he was about 10 years old. Charles Darwin was an English naturalist* who had a scientific theory that became used in modern elvolution sciences. Charles Darwin was a big part of scientifics in evolution becasue he is the one who thought of it. To explian it, he wrote the book Origin of the Species.

Charles Darwin came to the Galapagos Islands in 1835. He came to the Galapagos islands so that he could study the volcanos there, but he soon saw the animals there and he decided that he would study them.

This is the H.M.S. Beagle that took Charles Darwin and 73 of his men to the Galapagos Islands in 1835

Charles Darwin wrote many books, three of which are Origin of Species, The Voyage of the Beagle, and Rewriting the Book of Nature

Charles Darwin studied three animals in the Galapagos Islands. The animals were: finches, tortoises, and marine iguanas. Charles Darwin made observtion that there were different types of iguanas because there were iguanas that stayed on land, or they were aquatic and they swam underwater. He also made obeservstions about the Giant Tortoisies, the Giant tortoises could stretch their neck so that they could get the plants that they needed for food or they could have rounded shells if they ate the plants that were closer to the ground. For the Finches, Charles Darwin made the observation that they were all the same type of bird, it’s just that they all had different sizes and shapes of the beaks. This is because they were just slightly different species of that finch.

Natural Selection is one of the mechanisms of evolution, and mutation, migration, and genetic drift.Natural Selection can be explained by explaining it in 4 steps. 1. There is variation in traits- there are different colors/ shapes of the species2. There is differential reproduction- there is controlled population3. There is heredity- the genectic traits are passed down from the parents4. The end restult- the dominant trait will always be passed down
