Character Education

Moral Character"Consists of the qualities-such as integrity, justice, caring, and respect-needed for successful interpersonal relationships and ethical behavior" (Seider, 2012, p. 32)

Performace Character"The qualities such as effort, diligence, perserverance, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, ingenuity, and self-discipline needed to realize one's potential for excellence in academics, co-curricular activities, the workplace, or any other area of endeavor" (Seider, 2012, p. 32)

Strive to Be Better Everyday!

“Performance character must always be regulated by moral character to ensure that we do not do bad things in the pursuit of our goals, and moral character always needs performance character to enable us to be effective in carrying out our good intentions” (Seider, 2012, p. 33-34).

To be morally successfully you have to think about what virtues constitute good morality? These virtues include wisdom, justice, fortitude, self-control, love, positive attitude, hard work, integrity, gratitude, and humility (Lickona, 2003, p.1-3). Don't lie, do your own work, and always keep a positive attitude even when things get difficult. These virtues if used throughout your time in school and in life will make you not only a good student but also a better citizen for society.

Performance in life is everything but your performance must be genuine and never be taken as you wanting to out do another person. Your performance can be hindered by not having supportive individuals around you, not having a laid out set of guidelines for assignments, and not breathing/thinking excellence on a daily basis ( Always strive to better yourself and the people around you. Stay focused and think days or maybe even years ahead of where your goals are in life, such as going to college or becoming a doctor. Your performance should always be at the highest level because your performance ultimately will take you far in life.

Civic Character"The knowledge, skills, virtues, and commitments, necessary for engaged amd responsible citizenship. Examples of civic charcater strengths include civic and political knowledge, an ethic of participation and service, and the numerous social skills necessary to work productively with others for the common good" (Seider, 2012, p. 32-33)

Being civically involved can be difficult because first off many of you don't know what it means to be civic. When our country was founded schools were expected to teach students how to act virtuously in society amd through life (School Improvement in Maryland, n.d.). As individuals and as a class you all should strive to better yourselves, the people in the school, in your community, state, country, and world. No matter what you think you can't do, always remember you as a citizen can contribute to the greater well-being of man kind. The littlest acts of kindness in and out school makes our society better.
