Celiac Disease

I chose celiac disease. I chose celiac disease beacause my friend Madison has this disease .we were friends since kindergardonand I want to learn this disease a little better so that I can help her

The organ that are affected are colon and small intestine. [which is part of the digestives system]

Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anemia [have enough red blood cells to carry oxygen]

When people with Celiac Disease eat food with gluten their immune system forms antbobies to gluten, which attack the intestines. This causes inflammation[swelling] in the intestines. This damages the villi which absorbs nutrients for your body.

There are 300,000 Canadians in Canada that have Celiac disease. In North America 100 -200 people have celiac disease

There is no cure for Celiac Disease. Celiac Disease is treated by not eating gluten this is hard because gluten is in a lot of food like bread, pasta, pizza and rice.

Celiac Disease affect man and woman of all ages. 6-10 years is the average time a person waits to be correctly diagnosed. Gluten can be found in lip balms medicines and vitamains. 5-22% of Celiac patients have a family memder with Celiac Disease
