Cask of AmontilladoBy: Edger Allan Poe

The Cask of Amontillado is about revenge and grudges and getting so drunk that you offend your friends when they are not as drunk as you. The narrator remembers all of the things that his friend has said that is offensive and wants revenge. So he lures him into a cellar with the offer of very expensive wine, Amontillado. Although the friend is drunk, he knows something is up. So the narrator gets him more drunk with another wine. When they get to the end of the cellar, the narrator chains his friend to the wall and creates a brick wall in front of him and leaves him there to rot.

This is where E.A Poe was born.

Examples of Gothic Lit:

"I must not only punish, but punish with impunity."This creates suspense and possibly terror.

"For the half of a century no mortal has disturbed them." This creates a sense of dread.
