The Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel is found on high mountain peaks in western North Carolina, especially the Appalachian Mountain Range.
Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel
Glaucomys sabrinus coloratus
This species is endangered due to human impact. Deforestation leads to habitat destruction, stealing homes and food sources from these little creatures. If these processes continue, there will eventually be no more Carolina Northern Flying Squirrels. Although there are no standing protective laws, there are little things that we can do, along with protesting deforestation, to save them. We can tread lightly and stay on designated nature trails, raise awareness, and monitor the use and disposal of pesticides and other toxic waste.
