Carleton Watkins

Carleton Watkins was born in Oneida New York in 1829. He died in 1916. He took pictures from the 1860's to the 1890's.

Carleton Watkins was a landscape photographer,but some of his early works were portraits and a few were of San Francisco

He photographed the Western United States; (Yosemite, the Pacific Coast, San Francisco, etc.)

His photos were known for showing the attitudes of nature and being of amazing quality.

Carleton Watkins almost never used any form of artifical light in his photos.

Watkins used:~ Rule of Thirds in many of his photographs. His subject is very rarely dead-center in the photo.

This made his works more interesting and unique.
