Cape Buffalo

Cape Buffalo eat grass, plants, and shrubs. They drink lots of water. Like the cow, they swallow without chewing and then later regurgitate and chew the cud.

Cape Buffalo have thick, black hair and horns. Males weigh 500 pounds more than females. They are 4 - 6 feet tall and can live up to 16 years.

Cape Buffalo don't see or hear well, but they have a good sense of smell. This animal is one of the "Big 5": elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, and cape buffalo.

Cape Buffalo live on the savanna and in the forest. All cool off around mud holes. Their habitat is being made into farmland.
