The North Central region is mostly made out of Oceans and Coast, rivers and lakes, Scrubland and Chaparral, Mixed evergreen, North Coastal Forest, grasslands, and Oak woodland which is cool and wet depending on the region. For example the valleys are drier that the North Coastal Forest. There are lots of animals such as deer, rabbits, quail, ground squirrel. Grass seed, pine nuts, acorns, and shellfish, are some plants they used to make tool and other things. They used willow trees to make the baskets base. They hunted animal like deer, rabbits, and more. They tracked other animals. They cut trees down to their base in winter so it will grow long and straight to make it easier to make baskets. They tended sage that are used in baskets. The Kashaya Pomo believed that coyote created people, ocean, and the ocean animals and controlled them. They sang and danced to the story

The Northwest region is mostly covered with the North Coastal and Conifer Forest that is cool and wet with snow in winter. In the Northwest region there are animals and plants such as Elk and Redwoods. They used Elk antlers for tools and Elk skin for clothing. They used Redwoods for houses and canoes. They burned the grass and trees and made a open space to make it easier hunt game animals (big animals) and they built dams on rivers to catch fish such as salmon.The Yurok people believed that thunder and earthquake were friends and that they made the ocean. South Central Region

Camas are food that taste like sweet potatoes and burning helped Camas grow. They dug up small and big bulbs but replanted small ones to make them grow bigger to eat. They used the obsidian, from volcanoes, to make knives and arrowheads. Water are from melted snow in winter. They set small fires to help fresh grass grow and made easier to hunt and they put fire to set small animals into traps that are deep holes. The Achumawi people believed that animals help stop rain. They danced and sang to the story.

The Eastern region is mostly made out of High Desert, Low Desert, and Sagebrush Scrub Pinyon-Juniper woodland that is mostly freezing cold in winter and 100 degree fahrenheit with almost no rain in summer. There are lots of animals such as rabbits, squirrels, pinyon jays, and insects. They use rabbits for clothing. There are pinyon pine seeds and yellow nut grass for food. They hunt animals like rabbits and cut down trees to make bows to hunt game animals. They use fire to open seeds. The Paiute believed that Na-Gah went on the top of a mountain but he can’t go down. So, his dad turned him into the North star. They made ceremonies to that story.

The Southwest region is made up of Grasslands, Scrubland and Chaparral, Oak Woodlands, and Oceans and Coast which is cool and wet in winter and dry in summer. There are lots of animals such as sharks, sea lions, sardines, rockfish, black sea bass, halibut, and olivella snail. They use wood for boats and fish for food. They burned the Scrubland and Chappalmake fresh grass grow. The fire burned down bushes. The Chumash believed that There were no people living in Santa Cruz island but Hutash created people on that island. Hutash made a bridge but people fell into the water so Hutash made them into dolphins. They did storytelling to tell people about the story.

The Southeast region is mostly made out of High desert, Low Desert, and Rivers and Lakes which is hot and dry in summer and cold and dry in winter with little rain. There are woodrats, desert tortoise, squirrels, and chuckwallas. Trees grow where fresh water is underground. They find megquier trees and dig to get water, hunt for food, and find fan palm trees to get fan plum leaves for house. They burned the ground beside the megquier tree to get rid of pests and burning made palm trees helped grow better fruits. The Cahuilla believed that Mukat created humans and a coyote, Menil, took care of them. Mukat saved a snake and the humans were angry. So, Mukat hid himself in the water and Menil was the moon. The had celebrations about the story.
