What I think will happen?

Brixton Village is bursting with a vibrancy of traders, from art to clothes and food. As such, we feel that a class trip to this historical and well loved market place would allow the children to experience a range of cultures, working together in a bustling, multi- lingual environment that works to celebrate the diversity of South West London.

This topic activity relates directly to the overall learning that the children have experienced through this topic. They will be tasked with creating a picture that symbolises what they think of Brixton Village. This could relate to their art, history or georgaphy learning. These pictures will then be sent to a Brixton Village print shop, (Hustle Bucks), who will print each child's design onto a t-shirt. The children would have experienced this print process during thier trip around Brixton Village.

Lesson 1: Our AreaThis lesson would be an introduction to market places, focusing on the various market places in our area, (South West London), and how they have developed over time. It would aim to draw on home learning experiences that the children have encountered and create a basis for thinking about the historical nature of market places, asking questions such as 'Why are markets important? What came first, supermarkets or markets? Who uses them now and why? What do they sell , (now/then)? How is it helpful to the community?Lesson 2: Learning Outside the ClassroomThere are a variety of places to visit in Brixton Market. Whilst on our trip, the children would take part in a Brixton Market Heritage Walk, hoested by the Brixton Society. The walk aims to explain the historical significance of Brixton Market, and how it has grown and developed since the 1920's. This would link directly into the children's school learning of history in the classroom.

Lesson 1: Introduction to mapsThis lesson is intended to support learning from History, Lesson 1, looking at a map of the immediate area around the school, comparing it to then/now and diiscussing how the area has changed. This lesson will take place in two parts; firstly inside the classroom discussing pictures/maps of a previous time, (e.g 1920's), and secondly outside on a walk around the immediate area for the children to witness the difference that has occured.Lesson 2: Map of our Brixton Heritage WalkThis lesson would occur after the class trip. During the trip, children would record what they saw/ passed. This would be consolidated in a later lesson by creating a map, (in pairs) of the walk, using the imagery and recordings they had created. When finished, the map would be used to recount learning, which could then link into a literacy recount/ sequencing session

Lesson 1: Fabric PrintingInspiration for fabric printing patterns will be taken be given rom a variety of exotic fruit that the children found in Brixton Village. They will use cut up fruit as well as peels and skins in order to create a colourful pattern that embodies the spirit of Brixton Village.Lesson 2: Street Art WorkFor this lesson, children will take inspiration from street art seen around Brixton Village, and use this in order to create a 'mock up' on a3 paper of thier own street art. The final works will be placed together to form a temporary art instillation in the corridor outside of the classroom/hall/ covered outdoor space.

These mockups look great! It seems to me that any design project should use mockups for presentation. We recently developed flyer designs and used these mockups - https://www.ls.graphics/free-mockups/flyer-mockup . It seemed to me that the project execution time was halved because we reduced the time for edits. With the help of mockups, the client clearly understood what kind of design awaits him in the end, and was satisfied with our work.
