•About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime

•In 2011, there were more than 2.6 million breast cancer survivors in the US

Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of the breast. A malignant tumor is a group of cancer cells that can go into surrounding tissues or spread to other areas of the body. The disease occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get it, too.

•About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer

What is Breast Cancer?

Symtoms:At first many women(or men) do not even know they have breast cancer because most of the symtoms are too small and painless to notice, however the ACS states that if a women or men notices a lump in thier breast or in their underarm area to consult a doctor immediatly. Also if they see swelling and feel pain, they should also go and see a doctor just to be sure everythings okay

There are six major types of treatment for men and women: Surgery,Sentinel lymph node biopsy followed by surgery,Radiation therapy Chemotherapy, Hormone therapy,Targeted therapyThis is a long process, thoughout this process patients oftern suffer from hair loss, loss of energy, and extreme pain.

Women can go to many different facilities when they are diagnosed with breast cnacer, some of these are Clevland Clinic, Memorial Hospital, Planned Parenthood, any doctors that office a mommogram. After they have been diagnosed many women choose to going in a support gourp in order to spend time with other women who know excartly what they are going through. These vary by location.

•For women in the U.S., breast cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer, besides lung cancer.
