Clostridium Botulinum are rod shaped organisms. The bacteria form spores which allow them to survive in a dormant state until exposed to conditions that can support their growth. They grow best in low oxygen conditions.
- Double vision-Blurred vision-Drooping eyelids- Difficulty swallowing- With infants appears lethargic, feed poorly, are constipated, and have a weak cry and poor muscle tone- If untreated, may cause paralysis of the respiratory muscles, arms, legs, and trunk

Treatment
Prevention
- With respiratory failure, use a ventilater with intensive medical care- Antitoxin - Remove contaminated food by inducing vomitting- Wounds treated surgically, followed by antibiotics
- Follow strict procedures when canning at home - Canned foods should be boiled 10 mins. before eating- Do not use injectable street drugs - Do not feed babies honey
