Book of Revelation

"This book is the record of the events that Jesus Christ revealed. God gave him this revelation in order to show to his servents what must happen very soon. Christ made these things known to his servent John by sending his angel to him,"( Rev. 1:1)

The book of Revelation was written at about A.D. 85-95. It was written at a time when Christians were being oppressed because of their faith in Jesus Christ.

The book of Revelation is a combination of three different types of book: the epistolary, the apocalyptic, and the prophetic.

"Grace and peace be yours from God, who is, who was, and who is to come and from the seven spirits in front of his throne." (Rev. 1:5)

"To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb, be praise and honor, glory and might, forever and ever!" (Rev. 5:13)

The book of Revelations starts off with a introduction to the book. Then it continues with letters to the seven churches in the province of Asia to warn them about the apocalypse. This is followed by the great tribulation where the Lord, God eliminates his enemies. The struggle between the forces of good and evil becomes more intense as the evil powers grow stronger. The climax is reached when God intervenes, destroys the forces of evil and sets up a new heaven and earth where the righteous will live.

"May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with everyone." (Rev. 22:21)

The main theme of this book is that God defeats all of his enemies, including Satan and rewards those who stay faithful to him, with the blessing of a new earth and heaven.

I chose the book of Revelations for this assignment because of many reasons. First, this book is the last book of the Bible and that is good because it shows how it ended. Also, many people (catholic or not) are familiar with the first book of the Bible, the Genisis, but some might not know or heard of the book of Revelations which is equally important. It is important because it shows a final glimpse into the final judgment that will occur at the end times. This book is very interesting and major part of the Bible.
