The electric battery was invented by Alessandro Volta. In 1800, he discovered that certain fluids would generate a continuous flow of electrical power when used as a conductor. This discovery led to the invention of the first voltaic cell, more commonly known as battery. Volta learned further that the voltage would increase when voltaic cells were stacked on top of each other.

There are primary batteries, which can not be recharged, and secondary batteries, which are rechargeable. Secondary cell batteries can be found in phones and many other electronical devices. Primary batteries are used once and they discarded. They are used in things such as toys and flashlights.

A Dry Cell Battery is a standard battery commonly used for portable electric devices.

Lithium batteries last much longer than alkaline batteries and lithium batteries work in extreme temperatures. Standard batteries have worse performance, but they are more dependable and less expensive.

The scientific name for a recyclable battery is an accumulator. The difference between a recyclable battery and a dry cell battery is that one can be thrown away and one has acids that need handled by recycling plants. We throw away regular batteries and recycle rechargeable ones

Batteries have three parts, an anode (-), a cathode (+), and the electrolyte. The cathode and anode (the positive and negative sides at either end of a traditional battery) are hooked up to an electrical circuit.

The battery uses 2170-size lithium-ion cells which have up to 30% higher energy density than the 18650-size cells used in previous Tesla vehicles. As of 2017, the Model 3 battery pack was made of four longitudinal modules each containing the individual battery cells.Today, the lithium-ion battery is the most common type of battery used in pacemakers because of its reliability and life span. Most lithium-ion batteries can last 10 years or longer in a cardiac pacemaker. NASA uses Li-ion batteries in rovers. They’re recharged using solar panels and they must be able to endure launch impact.

I believe that much development has been made and soon, future batteries may be able to charge in seconds, last months and power over the air.
