They were known as "The Wailers". By 1966, Braithwaite, Kelso, and Smith had left The Wailers, leaving the core trio of Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, and Peter Tosh. In 1966, Marley married Rita Anderson and moved to Wilmington, Delaware. Though raised as a Catholic, Marley became interested in Rastafari beliefs in the 1960s. When he went back to Jamaica, he converted to Rastafari and started to grow dreadlocks. Soon after they broke up in 1974, in 1977, Marley was found to have a type of malignant melanoma under the nail of a toe. Due to his religious beleifs, he turned down his doctor's advice about getting his foot amputated. So, instead, the nail and he nail bed were removed. Even though he was ill, he continued to tour. Him ans the band completed a huge tour in Europe in 1980. After that he did two in Madison Square Garden, then, Benedum Center, which ould be his last show. Bob Marley was the type of peron that if he was apssionate about it, he would go for it. He had a passion for music, and if he could, there isn't no telling what amazing music he would be giving us today.

Born Robert Nesta, Marley was born in Nine Mile, Saint Ann Parish, Jamica to his parents, Norval Marley, and Cedella Booker. After the death of his dad, Marley and his mother left Nine Mile and went to Trenchtown, Kingston. There, they lived with a friend of Marley's Neville Livingston , or Bunny Wailer, and his father. Before they lived together Marley and Livingston used to play music together. The love of the music grew deeper after he moved in. They gathered others who shared the same passion for music like, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh, Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, and Cherry Smith , and made a vocal group.
