CAR SEAT SAFETY EDUCATION PLAN

Introducion On QUIPOver 80% of babies are improperly secured in their car seats. There is a positive correlation between proper placement and infant outcomes. By providing the necessary education to equip the staff in the MBU and NICU to teach caregivers how and why to properly secure their infant in a car seat, it will fulfill a gap in current practice and provide improved safety outcomes for the patients we serve.

Conclusion By providing the necessary education to equip the staff in the MBU and NICU to teach caregivers how and why to properly secure their infant in a car seat, it will fulfill a gap in current practice and provide improved safety outcomes for the patients we serve. By making these changes it will lead to better patient outcomes and provide a continued quality improvement culture necessary in healthcare today.

ACTIVITIES DURING PROCESS1. To obtain approval and funding for the project it will involve meetings with leadership to present the plan . Feedback will be in the form of approval and financial backing and any suggestions to complete the plan. If amount of money needed is not offered ,adjustments will need to be made in the plan. 2. Multiple meetings will be needed to construct class talking points and outline as well as for overview and input on handouts and posters. During the meetings there will be time for feedback on the original plan 3.Lunch and learns will be promoted at daily huddles. Feedback will be welcome at all phases of the plan and will be part of the written evaluation form at the end of class..

The outcomes will be achieved through effective education and good communication. Outcomes can be measured by observing parents secure their infants in their carseats properly at discharge. The employees outcome will be measured by observation also. Proper demonstration will confirm that the classroom objectives have been met. 1.Compile and distribute employee feedback form at each class and collect by end of class. These will be likerd type surveys on how they feel the education helped prepare them for educating caregivers/confidence levels/Was this information helpful ? etc. 2. Baseline phone calls will be made to see how much teaching being done and then follow up phone calls to speak with parents about their learning experience will be made. Forms will be filled out and compiled in a qualitative manor due to the nature of the QUIP and compared to pre-educating results. Both staff and caregiver feedback will be periodically reviewed and changes will be made to the teaching process based on responses from both parties. By completing the QUIP it can fulfill a public safety need that currently exists . The emphasis on family centered care and caregivers being educated in ways that have not been done before will benefit the organization by potentially increasing the chances of families choosing Catholic Health as a delivery destination.
