Bipolar Disorder

Our Question

A Bipolar Mind

Bipolar Disorder has always interests me because I like studying how and why the brain does some things. I think it is interesting how the brain reacts to different things like an extra chromosome.

What Happens

Doctors don't completely understand the causes of bipolar disorder. But they've gained a greater understanding in the past 10 years of the bipolar spectrum, which includes the highs of mania to the lows of major depression, along with various mood states between these two extremes.Experts do believe that bipolar disorder often runs in families, and there is a genetic part to this mood disorder. There is also growing evidence that environment and lifestyle issues have an effect on the disorder's severity. Stressful life events -- or alcohol or drug abuse -- can make bipolar disorder more difficult to treat.

How does he/she react differently to certain situations then a normal person?Response: A child can have signs of depression, extreme boredness all the time, outbursts of rage with out being triggered, and increased sexual interest.________________________________________________________________What are some additional things people with Bipolar Disorder need each day?Response: People that are Bipolar need medication, sleep (reccomended 7-8 hours), and schedule/structure.________________________________________________________________Are there certain times in a year or day that people with Bipolar are more prone to outbursts and moodswings.Response: Outbursts can be triggered by stress like having a test or getting trouble in school but, they don't always have to be triggered a patient could even just wake up triggered or just random outbursts.

Many people with bipolar disorder have problems in structuring their daily life. They only get up at noon, spend a lot of time in front of the television or on the computer, and meet friends or family members less frequently than in the past. In this manner, one easily allows the entire day to pass by without accomplishing or achieving anything. For some who are affected, this leads them long-term to hardly leaving the house at all, and to having fewer and fewer social relationships.

Structure is Key

If you or someone you know suffers from bipolar disorder, seek help right away. The earlier you begin treatment, the better your chances of getting and staying well. Effective bipolar treatment relieves symptoms, reduces the frequency and intensity of mood swings, and helps you live life on your own terms.

Where to get help.
