Biology Nutrient Project

Nucleic acids control your cells' activities by controlling protein synthesis.

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins.

Lipids are not soluble in water, but are in hydrophobic solvents. They store the most energy.

Carbohydrates are made up of small to large sugar molecules. Some examples include:Monosaccharides (one molecule)Disaccharides (two molecules)Polysaccharides (many molecules)

Nucleic Acids

The purpose of carbohydrates is to provide and store energy.Without them, you can be affected by simply losing weight to getting cancer.

Some examples are:FatsPhospholipidsOils and waxesSteroid hormonesTriglyceridesWithout lipids, your blood would get thinner, and not be able to clot. You would develop mental illnesses. You may even get diabetes.Lipids also store energy, stop heat loss, protect agains germs, and are very important to your genetic structure.

Having no protein in your body will result in hair loss, skin pigmentation, dermatitis, or pressure ulcers.

There are 7 functions of proteins:1. Storage: Albumin2. Transport: Hemoglobin3. Regularity: Hormones4. Movement: Muscles5. Structural: Membranes6. Enzymes: Cellular Reactions7. Defense: Antibodies

There are two types of nucleic acids:Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA)Ribonucleic Acid (RNA)You would not be alive without nucleic acids.
