Maya Angelou was born on April 4, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. Her real name was Marguerite Johnson. During her life Maya Angelou has lived many places including, Missouri, Arkansas, California, North Carolina, and Ghana. She is currently still living in North Carolina.

Through her writing Maya Angelou has helped make a difference in the world by changing the way people see African American women. She made people think about how they treat women, African Americans, and other people in general.
