Cabeza de Vaca

cabeza de vaca sailed to in 1528.After reaching Florda.The men got attacked by American Indians. To survive, they killed their horses and ate meat. They built new boats and used their shirts as sails. They made rope from the horses manes. They used hide from the horse to make canteen for drinking water. They escaped Florida by sailing west along the gulf coast.

A month later a storm seperated the boats. Cabeza de Vaca and his crew washed ashore near Galveston Island on a cold November day.Luckly, American Indians rescued them.

Many of Cabeza de Vaca's men eventually died from disease and exposure. The American Indians made slaves of those who survived, including Cabeza de Vaca. When he escaped, he found friendlier American Indians.
