The Isle of the Britons was a place of great turmoil and struggles. There were numerous small kingdoms who would attack each other and were invaded by tribes from the mainland. King Alfred sought to change life for the better by uniting the smaller kingdoms under one ruler.
Lasting Impact
The epic poem Beowulf inspired many authors and screenwriters to create epic tales like J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and George Lucas's Star Wars.
