Benedict Arnold

Arnold's Early Life!

Arnold's Later Years!

Benedict Arnold was born on January 14, 1741. Benedict Arnold was one of the rich kids growing up. At age 11 he went to boarding school. When Benedict Arnold was a boy he loved attention. He play pranks and did stunts. Arnold has done some stupid things such as fighting the authorities, he shot a cannon which almost blew his head off, and he shot a gun at a man dating Arnold's sister. Everything was going wrong in the Arnold family, Benedict's sisters died from an epidemic, (a widespread infected disease spreading across a town or community) his Dad became started heavily drinking, and his family couldn't pay for his college tuition so Benedict had to drop out of Canterbury University. Arnold went to go leave his family because his mother couldn't take care of him anymore. He moved in with his Mother's cousins house.(who where also wealthy) His Mother's cousins had a apothecary (medicine/drug store) and Arnold started to work there when he was 14 years old as a druggist apprentice. It wasn't very exciting so one day he didn't go to work because he was going to fight in the French and Indian war.

In his later years when the revolutionary war broke out and Arnold enlisted and he marched his militia to Massachusetts and became the Captain of the Connecticut militia. He also became the colonel of the Patriot forces! (GO PATRIOTS!) The sherif of New Haven happened to be Benedict Arnold's Father in Law because Arnold married his daughter, but sadly passed a year later. Britain was taxing the 13 colonies, HARD! So because of that he thought why pay? Yet his stupid idea failed because he was caught. Stealing was not the right thing to do, neither was taxing, but Arnold beat up the guard who caught him. This shows Benedict wasn't playing around. He lead the secret group; Sons of Liberty which was made up of shoe keepers and trades men. Arnold became Colonel Benedict Arnold, the Brigadier general, and the commander of Lake Chaplain.

How he Flopped!

When Benedict Arnold was 21 he opened his own herb and medicine business. But he owed 100's of 1,000's of dollars to his customers. When he wasn't promoted to Major General, George Washington felt bad because Benedict Arnold hurt his leg really bad and his wife died recently, so he gave Benedict Arnold another shot. George gave him instructions, and Arnold did the opposite. Benedict was pulled into court with 8 counts of swiping government funds, illegal use of property, and being disrespectful to basically everybody. Of course Arnold was a master of getting out of penalties so he didn't get charged with anything. George Washington gave him 2 more chances (THATS 3 CHANCES IN TOTAL) and failed each time. Arnold got frustrated and plotted revenge on Washington. He was in charge of a fort called West Point. Well... not for long. Immediately Arnold handed off a very important fort to the British. He dealt with John André making plans: If this plan worked he would get paid 20,000 pounds of British money. ( about 3.4 million in present day money. If his plan failed he would get paid only $6,000. And of course it failed. But Benedict escaped on a British ship. When Arnold was part of the Colonial Army Arnold was wounded in a battle in Quebec... in the leg...AGAIN. The British lost the war. BOO-HOO!! (sarcasm) He would have been a hero if he didn't betray us. But instead he was a phony.

Achievements!

Well at least he did SOME good things. Benedict Arnold was a huge help to the Continental Army, he drove off a British invasion and fought off Naval Battles which delayed another invasion. He never went to jail. He led America's first Offensive attack ever at Ticonderoga. He was brave and achieved many things. He was smart with his quests and fighting, like he looted Montreal, but pretended he didn't. He met up with Ethan Allen's Green Mountain Boys and they captured Fort Ticonderoga together. Fort Ticonderoga was a very important fort in New York. There was at least one person who like Benedict Arnold, and that person was King George III.

Facts!

If Benedict Arnold was captured he would have been hanged for Treason. At the end of the war Benedict Arnold escaped to England, he failed at buisnes there and set up a store in Canada. The shop in Canada burnt down a few years later. He tried to collect the insurance money but was denied because even his buisnes knew that Arnold burnt down the store just for money. Arnold had 2 wives, he had 3 kids with Margret Mansfield and 7 kids with Peggy Shippen. That's 10 kids in total!!!!!
