Battle of Shiloh

The Battle of ShilohApril 3-7, 1862

The Union leader, Ulysses Grant, went to attack the Confederacy at their weak spot.

The leaders of the South, Albert Sydney Johnston and Leonidas Polk, retreated.

The South became lax, and had to retreat to Corinth, MS the next day.

The South used confusing tactics to surprise the Union. Reinforcements help the Union to fight back.

The Union was overconfident, and did nothing useful for battle.

Northern casualties were 13,047, and the Southern casualties were 10,694.
