1. The Basilica Iulia was named after Julius Caeser. The building of the Basilica Julia was started in 54 BC, but only finished a few years before it was burnt down in 9 AD.
5. On the pavement of the portico, diagrams of games scratched into the white marble are still visible today. The building was destroyed by fire three times and was last restored in 416 A.D. It was the largest basilica at the Forum and was 101 meters by 49 meters in size. The central hall was 82 meters by 18 meters.

2. After its completion and final dedication by Augustus it became a favorite hangout place of the Romans people.
4. Basilica housed the civil law courts and tabernae provided space for government offices and banking. This new Basilica housed public meeting places and shops, but it was still used mainly as a law court.
3. After the basilica had been rebuilt it was dedicated to the grandsons of Augustus: Gaius and Lucius.
