Statford Olympic Park
Learning Outside the Classroom
In Geography the park can provide opportunities for map making, both from ground level and from the Olympic tower, conservation efforts, as well as geographical and population change in the area due to the parks development. This can further link to history where a wider knowledge of the history of the area can be constructed from discussion of the Iron Age skeletons that were found at the park during its construction to the catastrophic effects of the Second World War on the East End, to the recent history of the 2012 Olympics. Finally the artistic constructions, modern architecture and natural features of the park can provide opportunities for a range of different artistic possibilities from rubbings to photography. Further possibilities can be seen in the Medium term plan displayed above and more information about the park is available from the links displayed.

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has a seemingly short history having been built only in the last decade for the 2012 Olympic Games. A trip to the Park can most obviously be used to inspire children in physical education and introduce them to the excitement and grandeur of the Olympic Games. However, greater exploration can reveal historical, geographical and artistic significance and possibilities beyond the parks recent history, the investigation of which can be of far greater interest and importance to children, particularly those from the local area.
