Qualifications Basic requirements for an Astronaut Pilot include the following: 1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in engineering, biological science, physical science, or mathematics. An advanced degree is desirable. Quality of academic preparation is important. 2. At least 1,000 hours pilot-in-command time in jet aircraft. Flight test experience is highly desirable. 3. Ability to pass a NASA space physical which is similar to a military or civilian flight physical and includes the following specific standards: - Distant visual acuity: 20/100 or better uncorrected, correctable to 20/20 each eye. - Blood pressure: 140/90 measured in a sitting position. - Height between 62 and 75 inches.

Daily LifeThe astronauts are woken each morning by an alarm. They then have to climb out of their sleeping bags, which have been hooked to a wall. They then have to dress in disposable clothes (no washing machines in space) as quickly as they can with their limbs and clothes floating around them.Next they wash using a wet towel, as there is no shower on the space station. Then it is time for the first of three meals of the day. All liquids must be contained in plastic bags and drunk with a straw. Most solid foods can be eaten, however they must be pre-prepared before leaving Earth.Once they have finished they then work on their daily jobs, doing experiments, conducting maintenance, and flying the space station. They must also exercise daily, which is very difficult, as they need to be strapped into the machines. At the end of the day they have some free time to read, watch DVDs or watch the Earth slowly spin in space.

SALARYThe average salary for an astronaut starts at around$65,140 a year up to $100,701 a year. The salary will depend on the person's experience and academic achievements.
