Why she wants to die
“There is no human life more sacred then another, just as there is no human life qualitatively more significant then another… but above all by the attention and love given to the person, whose life is always sacred and inviolable.” (Pope Francis) We as Catholics strictly believe in the Consistent Ethic of Life. Recently, our religion class has approached the topic of assisted suicide. People justify assisted suicide with reasons like the fact that the people are in too much pain and want to die, their medication might cost too much and they would be a burden on their family. While people are completely justified with worrying about these things, assisted suicide is never the option. When these people, or their family members, decide to end their lives, they are playing God. God has a plan for each and every one of us, so when someone decides to end their live because of an illness, they are changing God’s plan for them. In today’s culture, a human’s life is worth as much as their income. However, in a culture of Catholic living, a human’s life is worth what Jesus paid on the cross. When people decide to turn to assisted suicide because they cannot afford their medication, they are giving in to society’s ideas of a person’s worth.
