Aspergillus is a group of molds, of which about 200 species have been identified (they are so small). Diseases caused by the fungus Aspergillus are called Aspergillosis. Aspergillosis is an infection caused by Aspergillus, a common cold (a type pf fungus) that lives indoors and outdoors. Aspergillus molds are found throughout the world and are the most common type of fungi in the environment. About 16 species of Aspergillus molds are known to be dangerous to humans, causing disease and infection. The type of health problems caused by Aspergillus include allergic reactions, lung infections, and infection in other organs.

It can result in illnesses, and diseases. A fumigatus is also an extremely dangerous pathogen, causing aspergillosis. A. niger is less dangerous. Although most of these organisms only cause severe illness in immunocompromised individuals, even otherwise healthy people may become infected; aspergillosis is often fatal. These illnesses are common among people who work in the farming industry, and are considered an occupational hazard. In addition, the diseases they cause, such as invasive pulmonary aspergillosis, are difficult to diagnose.

While species vary in color, size, and growth rate, microscopic characteristics are fairly uniform across Aspergillus species.Aspergillus gets its name from its shape. There is a vesicle in the shape of a circle, with filamentous extensions growing out from it. This resembles the shape of an aspergillum, a device used for sprinkling holy water.
