The Theme of the poem is negative effects of racism.

As he grew up he experienced racism, prejudice, hatred and was overwhelmed by that.

The wall rose slowly preventing him from achieving his dream.

He lied in despair, defeated, unable to function...

The speaker refuses to accept the role of the victim.

He commands his black hands to break through the obstacles.

The speaker has a dream bright like a sun
