Value
Value in art refers to the degree of lightness and darkness of a tone.
A chart that demonstrates the changing values of a tone on a scale of steps running from dark to light.
*Another name for value is tonality.*Basically how dark or light something is.

To create volume and 3 dimensional space. With a range of darks and lights and beginning with white and ending in black, value can produce a convincing sense of mass and volume in a drawing.
*Shading is usually done by either lightly or firmly pressing your pencil while filling in a space.*Hatching is a method of producing value that involves using short/long or thick /thin lines.*Cross Hatching is a method of prducing value that uses criss crossing lines.
