ANXIETY DISORDERS
Anxiety DisordersAnxiety Disorders are characterised by hieghtened anxiety or panic, as well as significant problems in everyday life.There are many types of Anxiety disorders, the main 6 being Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Phobia, Phobias, Obsessive Compulsive disorder (OCD), Post Traumatic Stress disorder (PTSD) and Panic Disorder.
GENERALISED ANXIETY DISORDERThis is when a person feels worried and anxious at times, particularly in times of great stress. These worries can interfere with their lives for 6 months or more. Their worries normally relate to an area of everyday life such as work.
PHOBIASWhen a person feels very fearful about a particular object or situation and goes to great lengths to avoid it, for example having an injection.
Social PhobiaThis is when a person has an intense fear of being criticized, embarrased or humiliated, in all aspects of their life, such as eating in public.
Obsessive Cumpulsive DisorderWhen a person has ongoing wuwanted thoughts and fears that cause anxiety. although they may dismiss these thoughts, they carryout rituals, for example fear of germs can lead to constant sanitisation
Post Tramuatic Stress DisorderHappens after a person experiances a tramuatic event. Symptoms can include difficulty relaxing, upsettign dreams and flashbacks, and avoidance pf anything relating to the event. It is diagnosed when a person has symptoms for over a month.
Panic DisorderWhen a person has panic attacks which are intense, overwhelming and often uncontrolable feeling of anxiety combined with a range of physcal symptoms such as shortness of breath and dizzyness.
