Antonin Dvorak

Antonin Dvorak was born on September 8, 1841 in Nelahozeves Czech Republic. When he was young he studied music. He had to do it in his spare time though, because helping his dad as a butcher was a lot of work.He lived in a romantic era. He played instruments such as violin, organ, and piano. When he wasn’t studying or helping out Dad, he spent most of his time taking lessons.Dvorak's own style has been described as the fullest recreation of a national idiom with that of the symphonic tradition. When he was 31 he first submitted a score of his first symphony. Then in 1874 he first made a submission for the Austrian State Prize for Composition.He studied in organ school. He also learned to play violin and viola. He proceeded and after graduating at the age of 18, he wrote his first string quartet at 20. During his lifetime he traveled to England in 1884, moscow in 1890, he went to New York, an in 1892 he went to Iowa.During his lifetime there were many other significant world events going on too. Such as; Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg address, several major civil war battles, in 1862 aspirin was discovered, the olympic games were revived in greece, the us purchased Alaska, the Suez canal opened, Henry Ford produced his first car and more.He died on May 1, 1904 in Austria due to heart failure.
