Anorexia and Bulimia

Anorexia NervosaPeople with anorexia nervosa have an irrational fear of gaining weight and put themselves on restrictive diets and harsh, punishing exercise routines. They have an unrealistic view of their bodies.

Anorexia Nervosa & Bulimia

Bulimia NervosaBulimia nervosa (BN) and binge-eating disorder (BED) are eating disorders that cause binge eating, the act of consuming enormous amounts of food in one session. Bingeing can be the result of extreme hunger from the wrong kind of dieting. People with bulimia may use purging methods to try and get rid of the food after a binge. This can involve deliberate vomiting, taking laxatives or other methods. They may also use strict dieting, fasting or take diet pills to compensate for the binges.

The main difference between diagnoses is that anorexia nervosa is a syndrome of self-starvation involving significant weight loss of 15 percent or more of ideal body weight, whereas patients with bulimia nervosa are, by definition, at normal weight or above.
