What happened on the day they were taken away?On a warm summer's day on August 4 1944, four Gestapo policemen raided a canal warehouse at 263 Prinsengracht, Amsterdam.The eight Jewish people hiding in the annex there were arrested: Otto Frank, his wife and two children; the van Pels family of three; and Fritz Pfeffer, a dentist. They were taken to Westerbork Camp and from there herded into cattle wagons bound for Auschwitz. Of the eight, only Otto returned.

Who helped the Frank family? After July 6, 1942, the lives of Miep Gies, Victor Kugler, Johannes Kleiman and Bep Voskuijl are completely dominated by the inhabitants of the Secret Annex.

How did everyone die? van Pels dies of exhaustion in concentration camp Mauthausen in Austria on 5 May 1945.Auguste dies somewhere in Germany or Czechoslovakia, between April 9th and May 8th 1945.After two years, the group was betrayed and transported to concentration camps. Anne Frank and her sister, Margot Frank, were eventually transferred to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, where they died.Edith Frank died from starvation at the age of 44.
