EtiologyUnknown but scientists have discovered a strong genetic link between families. Gene is known as HLA-B27.

DescriptionAnkylosing Spondylitis, also known as Bechterew's disease, is a form of spinal arthritis, chiefly affecting young males, that eventually causes ankylosis of vertebral and sacro-iliac joints.

SymptomsBack pain, neck pain, stiffness, fatigue, forward curvature of the spine, and rarely eye pain and redness.

PathophysiologyStiffness from spine, tightness in the chest, pain or loss of eyesight, bowel dysfunction, scaley skin, damage to lungs, high blood pressure, enlarged aorta, sexual dysfunction, bladder dysfunction, stooped sholders, neck pain.
