ANIMAL CELLS

CENTRIOLE~The main function of the centriole is to produce the cell's cytoskeleton which is made of microtubules and microfilaments that allow movement for all kinds of things in the cell including the chromosomes during mitosis and meiosis.~Each centriole is a ring of 9 groups of fused microtubules.~The centriole is like the three branches of government because there are three microtubules in each group.*In the complete animal cell centrosome, the two centrioles are perpendicular to each other

NUCLEOLUS~The nucleolus produces ribosomes, which move out of the nucleus and take positions on the rough endoplasmic reticulum~the nucleolus is like the vice president because it is the backbone of the nucleus, just like the vp is for the president.~We need it the nucleolus to keep things running.

NUCLEUS~Within the nuclues the DNA is responsible for providing the cell with it's unique characteristics.~The nucleus like the president it the most important part of the cell it is what keeps everything together. The nucleus is in charge of keeping things on a going.

CYTOPLASM/CYTOSOL~The "soup" within which all the other cell organelles reside.~Through mostly water, the cytosol is full of proteins that control the cell metabolism inculding signal transduction pathways.~Cytoplasm is like the department of homeland security because it handles what comes through and protects as well.

ANIMAL CELL

GOLGI APPARATUS~Membrance bound structure with a single membrane.~It is actually a stack of membrane bound vesicles that are important in packaging macromolecules for transport elsewhere in the cell.~The stack of larger vesicles is surrounded by smaller vesicles containing those packaged molecules,~The golgi apparatus is like the chief of staff because the it is over the things inside but there is something over it.

LYSOSOME~Lysosome is needed for organization.~Lysosome is like the department of treasury because it is also used to organize things and direct.~Lysosomes contain hydrolytic for necessary for intracellular digestion

MITOCHONDRIA~Needed to provide the energy a cell needs to move, divide, produce secretory products,contract- in short, they are the power centers of the cell.~Mitochondria are like the department of energy because they both provide the energy for everything to run.

CELL MEMBRANE~Every cell is enclosed in a membrane,a double membrane of phospholipids.~The cell membrane acts as a protective barrier to the uncontrolled flow of water.~It is like the protection agency because it doesnt let anything out or in.

RIBOSOME~Ribosomes are packets of RNA and protein that play a crucial role in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.~Each ribosomes comprises two parts, a large subunit and a small subunit.~A ribosome is like the department of state because its a two part job you are over one big part and then all the little parts.

VACUOLE~A membrane bound sac that plays roles in intracellular digestion and release the cellular waste products.~The vacuole is like the department of interior because it handles everyhting that goes on inside and make sure everyhting is doing it's part.

ROUGH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM~The rough ER appears to be pebbled to the numerous ribosomes on the surface.~The rough ER is like the department of transportation because the proteins synthesized on these ribosomes collect in the endoplasmis reticulum for transport throughout the cell.

SMOOTH ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM~The smooth ER plays different functions depending on the specific cell type including lipid and steriod hormone synthesis, breakdown of lipid-soluble toxics in liver cells, and control of calcium release in muscle cell concentration.~The smooth ER is like the department of labor because it runs what work goes on and does most of it. It focuses on the physical.
