Andrew Young

Andrew Young was born on March 12, 1932 during the depths of the great depression. He was born in a middle class family and his dad was a dentist while his mom was a school teacher. After graduating college from Howard University in Washington D.C. and Hartford Theological Seminary in Connecticut he became a pastorate of Bethany Congretional Church in Thomasville, Georgia. Later he left the church and became an aid to Dr. Martin Luther King JR. in the civil rights movement. After King's assasination alot of King's followers gave up but Andrew Young didn't. He got many high class jobs which I will tell you in the achievments. Currently Andrew Young is a teacher at Georgia State University.

Accomplishments

1932 - was born1951- Graduated from Howard University in Washington D.C. 1955- He earned a divinity degree from Hartford Theological Seminary in Connecticut, and accepted the pastorate of Bethany Congretional Church and left the pastor in 1961.1961 - Worked with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Atlanta based civil rights organization led by Martin Luther King Jr.1972- He became the first African American since Reconstruction to be elected to Congress from Georgia.1977 - John Carter named Young ambassador to the United Nations.1981 - Elected as Mayor of Atlanta.He is currently a teacher at Georgia State University.

Andrew Young is an American polititian, diplomat, activist, and pastor from Georgia. He was the Mayor of Atlanta, a Congressman from Georgia's 5th congressional district, and United States Ambassador to the United Nations.

Lasting Impact

Andrw Young taught many people from our generation of civil rights while working with Dr. Martin Luther King JR.
