*Vesalius was a native of the duchy of Brabant (Belgium), and he came from a family of physicians and pharmacists.*He went to the University of Padua, a progressive university with a strong tradition anatomical dissection.


*Andreas Vesalius, the Flemish physician, is considered to be the founder of the modern science of anatomy.*Vesalius realized that Galen's work was an evaluation of the dissection of animals rather than human beings.*Vesalius published his book, De Humani Corporis Fabrica, that contained over 200 anatomical illustrations.
