Rome becomes a republic and is ruled by senators. Rome becomes a complex repuclican government.
Rome is founded by Romulus, the first of the seven Roman kings.
753 BC
Hannibal of Carthage invades Italy with armies from Africa. This becomes the second Punic War.
Julius Caesar becomes the first dictator of Rome after defaeting Pompey in a civil war.
Julius Caesar is assassinated on the Ides of March. Civil war breaks out after this murder.
