Amerigo Vespucci was born on March 9th, 1454. He was born in Florence,Italy. When he grew up, he was interested in astronomy. All types. He was hired as a navigator of the stars for a voyage when he was an adult. Vespucci had his own dream. He wanted to sail on a voyage to Asia, for shiploads of gold, exotic spices, and silk. He was a good friend of Columbus, and Columbus was Amerigo's role model. Amerigo's voyage number of times are unknown. Amerigo went on his two voyages, and saw Indians running around. Amerigo also was looking for the fountain of youth. On Febuary 12, 1522, Vespucci died of malaria.

Amerigo Vespucci found out that the North America or the "New World", was a seperate continent from South America. This was totally unknown to Asians, Europeans, and Africans. In 1501, Vespucci embarked on a third expedition and discovered Rio de Janeiro and Rio de la Plata.

The Chinese discovered the compass and sold it to the Europeans for a resourceful tool. Many explorers used this tool to not get lost, including Amerigo Vespucci, and it helped his success to find South America.
