American Eels

The American Eel,or Anguilla rostrata, has been endangered, because people have fished, eaten, built dams, changing climate, and farmed eels for hundreds of years.

Eels are being protected by having eel laders so they can go to their mating grouds without being sucked into water turbines. They have been closing eel sport fishery, and cancelling fishing quota.

Since 2004 Eels have been indangered, and not many are seen in the coastal plain in North Carolina.
