The oxidation states are +3. The boiling point is 2467 Celsius. The melting point is 660.37 Celsius. The denisity is 2.702 g/cm3. The atomic radius is 143 pm. Its electronegativity is 1.61. Its phase at room temperature is a solid.

Aluminum is a very good conductor of electric current. More than 90% of high-voltage transmission lines are made up of Aluminum. Aluminum can form a mirror by creating a thin layer of Aluminum oxide on the surface of the glass. Aluminum, is not strong, so its often mixed with other metals to produce strong alloys. An alloy of Aluminum and Manganese can be used to make cookware, roofing, storage tanks, and lawn furniture. An alloy of Aluminum and Copper is used to construct aircraft structural parts and large or thin structural panels. An alloy of Aluminum and Magnesium is used to create parts for boats and ships, outdoor creative objects and tall poles. An alloy of Aluminum, Zinc and Magnesium is used to make vehicle parts and anything else that needs high strength and low weight. An alloy of Aluminum and Silicon is used to make aluminum castings. An alloy of Aluminum, Magnesium and Silicon is used to create exposed parts of buildings and bridges.

Aluminum’s most common compounds are alum, potassium aluminum sulfate (KAl(SO4)2•12H2O), and aluminum oxide (Al2O3). Other examples of compounds are Aluminium trihydride: AlH3, Aluminium trifluoride: AlF3, Dialuminium hexachloride: AlCl3, Dialuminium hexabromide: [AlBr3]2, Dialuminum hexaiodide: [AlI3]2, Dialuminium trisulphide: Al2S3, Dialuminium triselenide: Al2Se3, Dialuminium tritelluride: Al2Te3 and Aluminium nitride: AlN.

A few interesting facts about Aluminum is that it originated from the Latin word for alum, alumen. Secondly, Aluminum is the most abundant metal in the earth’s crust. Thirdly, because of Aluminum’s highly reactive nature it is never found free in nature. Fourthly, it was discovered by Hans Christian Oersted, a Danish chemist in 1825. Fifthly, in 1888, chemist Charles Martin Hall created the Pittsburg Reduction Company, which produced inexpensive Aluminum. It is now known as the Aluminum Company of America.
