The Latin word for high mountains is the alpes. This is why this biome is cold, snowy, and windy with an average height of 10,000 feet or more.

During the summmer time (June- Septimber) the average temperature is 10-15°C. In the winter time (October- May) the average temperature is below freezing.

The soil in this biome is well drained but overall poor soil. It is rocky and sandy making it only viable for certain plants. The average rainfall the form of snow is aproximately 30 cm a year.
