All About The Cells

Cells are the basic building blocks of all life forms (plants and animals). Every living thing is made up of cells. There are also eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and are a part of both single-celled and multicellular organisms. Prokaryotic cells are mainly a part of unicellular organisms, but are sometimes a part of multicellular organisms. There are also different parts of a cell. The following list what they are: Cell Wall (Plant only) - Provides protection, support, and shapeCell Membrane - Protects interior organelles, and allows the entry of materialsCytoplasm - Also provides support for the organellesVacuole - Provides storage for the cellNucleus - Acts as the brain; controls activity of the cellNucleolus - Makes ribosomesRough & Smooth Endoplasmic Recticulum (ER) - Transports materials to other parts of the cellGolgi Apparatus - Same function as Ribosome - Makes proteinsMitochondria - Creates a majority of the necessary energy for the cellChloroplasts (Plant only) - Produces food for the cellLysosome - Breaks down food for the cell
