PapyrusIn Ancient Egypt they needed an item to write and paint on to communicate. It was the first type of paper or canvas to write on. They would wet the leaves of the papyrus plant and place it under a rock for 21 days.Today in classrooms everywhere we still use paper to write on and communicate with. The only difference is that papyrus was probably thicker than paper.
CalendarEven in Ancient times people needed to keep track of the day, and what time of the year it was. The calendar began as a tablet with many symbols.Today without the 365 day calendar we would never know how old we were, and what day it was.
Sails for ShipsIn Ancient Egypt the citizens needed a better way for boats to function, faster and better. They wanted a way for boats to travel more efficiently. They were normally made of papyrus reeds since there was little available wood.Nowadays we don’t use sails on ships very often, but the sail is a very useful invention/discovery that only requires wind power.
Irrigation The people of Ancient Egypt were in need of a way to water their crops more efficiently. They would flood the Nile River whenever the fertile sediment had settled and needed water.Today we use a slightly different version of irrigation however we still use irrigation.
